What It Is
Cellulite is a condition in which the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. Some common areas for this to occur is the thighs. I know there have been times (usually around the holidays) where I pack on a few extra pounds, and see some of this on the back of my upper thighs.
Though fat loss does decrease the amount of cellulite that someone has, it may not get rid of it completely. Bummer. So we’ll have to intervene!
How Do You Get Cellulite?
Among a variety of reasons, here are the most common:
- Hormones: estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.
- Diet: those who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt and too little fiber are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
- Lifestyle: cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, and those who do not exercise.
- Clothing: garments that are too tight and limit blood flow may contribute to the formation of cellulite.
Now that you know what you’re dealing with, and what’s the likely cause for it, onto the good stuff: fixing it.
This concoction smells so yummy! If you love coffee candy or ice cream, you’re going to adore this scent. Pro tip: it can get a bit messy, apply this in the shower.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/3 cup coffee grounds
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon sea salt or raw sugar
- An empty container
- Saran Wrap *optional, if you want to use this scrub as a body wrap as well. Recommended wrap time: 30 min
Mix together the ingredients and identify the areas that need some love. Again, I highly recommend using this in the shower, as this can easily get all over the floor.
The caffeine in the coffee will stimulate the area, discouraging cellulite. The salt or sugar will exfoliate your skin, sloughing off any dead cells that were previously on the surface. The coconut oil will ultra moisturize your skin, leaving it softer than it has ever been.
Scrub in a circular motion to awaken the area as much as possible. Getting blood flow to the target site is essential to getting rid of cellulite. Use a good amount of force, but don’t hurt your skin. Using a brush or loofah helps sooooo much!
Massage the area for 30 seconds to a minute, then rinse. You may wrap your problem area in Saran Wrap if you want your skin to be exposed to this formula for a longer time.
Use 2-3 times per week, and you should start to see major results after about use 2-4. I personally saw results after the very first use. You can keep the container in your shower next to all your other goo.
I swear by this remedy, and so do all of my friends and clients who have tried it! There are a lot of similar products on the market, but most of them contain harsh chemicals, and are incredibly more expensive.
